Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives, commonly referred to as MMAs, are structural adhesives that bond a wide range of substrates such as metals, plastics, and composites as well as dissimilar materials. MMAs reduce assembly costs by replacing traditional metal fasteners and welding.
Applications include:
- Truck assemblies including roof, door and side panels as well as trailer floors and wall panels.
- Marine applications include bonding hulls, decks and internal fixtures on boats, personal watercraft, and kayaks.
- Electric motor use MMA’s to bond magnets to housings and loudspeaker cores are bonded with MMA’s
- MMA’s can be used on composite assemblies to reduce time and provide weather resistant bonds.
Performance characteristics include:
- No primer required for most applications
- Less brittle than epoxies and can fill large gaps
- Chemical, UV and Weather resistant
- High elongation and bond strength at temperatures of -40 F to 250 F.
